Bit-Tech.net: 8 out of 10
"If you're really, really wanting something small and powerful then definitely get the SP35P2 Pro without a shadow of a doubt, other SFFs just don't cut it," state the editors of the British hardware website Bit-Tech.net having tested the Shuttle XPC Barebone SP35P2 Pro. Because "it looks fantastic, its build quality is superb and it's got an unmatched performance-to-size ratio," the SP35P2 Pro is a "very capable gaming system."
The new Shuttle XPC Barebone SP35P2 Pro is “an all aluminium affair which keeps the weight down" making it possible to carry the SP35P2 Pro around easily. According to Bit-Tech, the P2 chassis design offers a much better internal layout and greater expansion potential." The front panel sports besides USB 2.0, Firewire, headphones and microphone jacks a fingerprint reader. This is a "novel addition" and "very useful" as well. Otherwise the SP35P2 Pro looks “increadibly smart, nicely subtle and well presented,” write the editors.
While kitting the SP35P2 Pro out with hardware, the editors found the "installation is a breeze." Powered by a 400W PSU, the barebones takes most recent Core 2 Quad processors and high-end graphics cards such as ones from the GeForce 8800 series. The fact that the Shuttle XPC Barebone SP35P2 Pro is "a very capable gaming system" and also provides "desktop level performance" becomes obvious when running Crysis, one of the most demanding games at the time of writing, at 1280x800 which "looked fantastic and was still completely playable." Furthermore, up to “three SATA hard disks” and up to 8GB of DDR2 memory can be fitted in. |
